How to choose cordless tools and a battery platform — 2026–2027
When you buy a cordless tool you are choosing not just one tool but a battery platform. Batteries of one brand and voltage fit all of its tools, so the right first choice saves money for years.
Choose the platform first
Each brand has its own battery system, and batteries do not fit other brands’ tools. Think about the tools you will want later — drill, impact driver, grinder, saw, vacuum, garden tools — and choose the platform that has them all.
12 V, 18 V or 36 V
12 V (10.8 V) tools are small and light, for furniture assembly and electrical work. 18 V (14.4/18/20 V max) is the most common platform with the widest range. 36 V tools (2×18 V or 40 V max) replace corded ones: big saws, rotary hammers, garden machines.
Battery and charger
Capacity (Ah) decides the runtime: 2 Ah is light, 5 Ah and up suits heavy tools. A fast charger lets you work with two batteries without a break. If you already have batteries, buy tools without a battery and charger — they cost noticeably less.
Brushless motors
Brushless motors run longer on one charge, stay cooler and never need new brushes. If you will use the tool every day, it is worth choosing one.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use one brand’s battery in another brand’s tool?
No, batteries only work with tools of their own brand and platform.
What does “without battery” (solo, body only) mean?
The tool is sold without a battery and charger, for people who already have batteries of the same platform.
How should I store batteries?
In a dry place that is not too hot, partly charged if stored for long. Do not leave them in a car in summer.
Where can I find batteries and chargers?
In the Batteries & chargers section of the website and in the two Areg Tools shops in Yerevan.
