How to choose a pressure washer — 2026–2027

A pressure washer cleans the car, patio, walls, steps and garden furniture much faster than an ordinary hose and uses less water. The choice depends on how often and what you will clean.

Pressure and flow

Pressure (bar) decides how hard the water strips dirt; flow (l/h) decides how fast it cleans the surface. 100–130 bar is enough for cars, bikes and garden furniture; 140 bar and up for patios, walls and frequent use. At the same pressure, more flow means faster work.

Pump and motor

A metal (aluminium or brass) pump lasts longer than a plastic one. An induction motor is quieter and built for long runs; a universal motor is light and suits short home use. Professional models run for hours without a break.

Mains water or a tank

Many washers can draw water from a barrel or tank where there is no mains supply, at a country house or on site. Check that the washer can self-prime, and use a filter so sand does not damage the pump.

Accessories

A rotating (turbo) nozzle removes stubborn dirt from paving, a surface cleaner washes large flat areas fast and without splashing, and a foam lance helps when washing the car. A long hose and a sturdy gun make the work easier.
