How to choose a workshop (industrial) vacuum — 2026–2027

A workshop vacuum differs from a household one in every way: it picks up fine building dust, debris and water and connects to your power tools. A household vacuum is quickly ruined by that kind of dust.

Dust class: L, M, H

Class L suits ordinary dust such as wood, plaster and soil. Class M is needed for dust from concrete, brick, tile and stone, which contains quartz, and for hardwoods. Class H is the strictest, for hazardous dust. If you often drill and cut concrete, choose class M.

A socket for your tools

Many vacuums have a socket for a saw, sander or rotary hammer. The vacuum starts when the tool starts and keeps running a few seconds after it stops, clearing the hose. Work stays much cleaner.

Tank, filter and power

A 20–30 l tank is enough for renovation; 40 l and up suits large sites. Automatic or push-button filter cleaning keeps the suction up when the filter fills with fine dust. Suction and airflow matter as much as the wattage.

Wet and dry, cordless

Almost all workshop vacuums pick up water too. Cordless models are handy where there is no socket and run on the batteries of the same brand’s tools. Bags and filters are consumables; keep spares.
